At EWN, we’re proud to announce the renewal of our Memorandum of Understanding with Bush Heritage Australia for another year.

This ongoing partnership plays a vital role in safeguarding people, ecosystems, and biodiversity across some of the country’s most remote and ecologically significant landscapes.

Bush Heritage is a national not-for-profit conservation organisation protecting and managing more than 21 million hectares of land. Their work is deeply rooted in ecological restoration, Traditional Custodian partnerships, and the preservation of biodiversity. In 2024–25, they partnered with us to strengthen weather preparedness and climate risk management across their operations.

How EWN Supports Bush Heritage in the Field

For Bush Heritage teams, weather is a deciding factor in activities such as fire management, revegetation, and ecosystem restoration. Many of their reserves are hours from emergency support, making timely, accurate weather intelligence essential.

Our real-time severe weather alerts are now fully integrated into Bush Heritage’s operational protocols and Bushfire Emergency Plans. Field teams receive these alerts directly, enabling them to make rapid, informed decisions to protect staff and assets.

This was put into action during a sustained heatwave in Western Australia’s Gascoyne region, when daily updates from EWN allowed staff to restructure fieldwork to avoid the most dangerous heat periods, reducing the risk of heat-related illness and improving safety outcomes.

Long-Term Planning Powered by Climatics

The partnership goes beyond day-to-day safety. Using Climatics, our historical climate insights platform, Bush Heritage can analyse long-term trends in heat, fire weather, rainfall intensity, and drought risk. These insights help:

  • Assess environmental risks before acquiring new land

  • Adapt land management strategies to site-specific conditions

  • Inform conservation decisions with evidence-based climate data

This analytical approach is transforming internal reporting, giving national managers and ecologists the ability to advocate for resources, shape management plans, and respond to evolving climate hazards with confidence.

Shared Values, Real Impact

Over the past year, our collaboration has delivered measurable benefits, supporting strategic land acquisitions, emergency response coordination, and enhanced safety protocols.

“The alerts from EWN were crucial in keeping our staff informed and safe. Having reliable, national-scale intelligence improves both our field response and our broader planning.”
— Fire Program Manager, Bush Heritage Australia

By renewing our MOU, we’re committing to another year of shared action against climate risk. Together with Bush Heritage, we’ll continue delivering the intelligence they need to protect both people and landscapes, ensuring that Australia’s unique biodiversity can thrive well into the future.
