ARRAY bolsters its SmarTrack® platform with EWN's hail intelligence, meeting rising hail risk with automated, data-driven protection

Early Warning Network today announced its partnership with ARRAY Technologies in an Australian first.

Array is a leading global provider of solar tracking technology and fixed-tilt products, foundation and other balance-of-system solutions, software and services. ARRAY now integrates EWN’s hail intelligence into its SmarTrack® Hail Alert Response platform, equipping Australian solar operators with an automated, weather-response defence designed to mitigate one of the sector’s escalating operational risks.

As an expansion of its SmarTrack software platform, ARRAY will utilise EWN as its hail intelligence provider in Australia. EWN's detection and forecasting systems identify hail risks for solar projects, which ARRAY’s SmarTrack analyses and acts pre-emptively to adjust solar modules to maximum tilt protective angles before hail arrives. Fully automated, SmarTrack delivers timely protection, moving solar modules into protective positions without the need for human decision-making.

“ARRAY’s approach to engineered simplicity combined with EWN’s hail intelligence platform unlocks new potential for Australia that will continuously benefit solar projects by equipping them with tools that make them adaptable when facing hail risks,” said Francesca Lucia Falcone, Business Development Director, APAC at ARRAY. “This integration greatly improves the bankability of these projects, and ARRAY is proud to work with trusted collaborators such as EWN to help our customers deliver consistent, reliable energy throughout Australia.”

“Australian solar enters a new phase as EWN’s collaboration with ARRAY utilises data-driven intelligence to make real-time adjustments that enhance performance and longevity of projects nationwide,” said Henrik Thorup, CEO of EWN. “As solar projects continue to be deployed across Australia, this advancement will better help to protect these valuable energy assets on the grid from the rising risks of damaging hail. We look forward to working with ARRAY to ensure that solar power continues to play a valuable role for the Australian power grid through the built-in resilience needed to be protected from hail threats.”

Australia's overall solar sector has scaled from under 350MW of deployed capacity in 2017 to more than 13GW by the end of 2025, and much of that build-out sits in regions prone to severe convective storms. Insurance underwriters have flagged hail as an escalating risk across that growing footprint.¹

ARRAY trackers deliver more dependable stow behaviour in adverse conditions through an AC grid-powered motor and wired communications compared to systems relying on battery power and wireless communications, which can be disrupted by extreme weather. The Company’s differentiated reliability architecture is further strengthened with EWN’s expansive network coverage to help mitigate this growing exposure.

EWN's hail monitoring combines Australia-wide radar coverage, meteorologist verification, and proprietary detection algorithms.

As solar expands into hail-prone regions, EWN’s capabilities help ARRAY offer operators a clear way of showing insurers and financiers how they actively manage risk and support long-term asset longevity as the sector grows.
