Southwestern Western Australia are bracing themselves for another bout of severe weather Monday evening into Tuesday, as a strengthening cold front impacts the region.
In what has been a wild winter across the west, this frontal system could be the strongest of the season yet.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for destructive winds, heavy rainfall, abnormally high tides and damaging surf, with conditions set to deteriorate late this afternoon.
Peak winds gusts of up to 120km/h can be expected, particularly for exposed coastal locations and elevated terrain, with locally destructive winds above 125km/h possible over the next 24 hours, particularly southwest of a line from Geraldton to Bremer Bay.
Heavy showers and rain periods will develop, with widespread falls of 25-50mm expected for parts of the South West Land Division, increasing the threat for significant flash flooding to occur. A flood watch remains current for this region.
Abnormally high tides will develop today between Lancelin and Bremer Bay, extending to areas between Kalbarri and Israelite Bay on Tuesday. This is expected to lead to the flooding for low-lying coastal areas. Damaging surf conditions will also develop, with may lead to significant beach eriosion between Jurien Bay and Walpole today, extending to areas between Kalbarri and Israelite Bay Tuesday.
Conditions will gradually ease late Tuesday into Wednesday, before another strong front threatens the region on Thursday.
